Dear sir, first of all I know nothing of this sort of work, I am having a contractor coming to redo my bathroom, ( its over 30 years old ) we are adding a light/exhaust fan also, the contactor says that they don’t go thru the roof for the fan exhaust just into the attic.

We have a raised ranch and our attic runs from one side of the house to the other, storage only of course as you have to bend the whole time your up there, I am not smart with this stuff and don't know if I am being " had " by the contractor, we have a pitch roof I guess it's called, typically raised ranch style.

We have two vents ( like small window shape ) on each side of the house, up over the garage and on the opposite side also covered with screen on the inside I guess to keep bugs and pest out, our soffit which runs the length of the house front and back also, I guess would be a 2 inch wide honeycomb style.

Its boiling up there in the summer and freezing in the winter, I just wanted to know if what the contractor wants to do is " normal " since the fan will be closer to the back wall of the house and then when you go into the roof the roof angles pitches down as you get to the end of the roof.

I'm afraid the moisture being sucked up by the fan will damage the wood in the attic since its exhaust vent will be so close to where the roof/attic pitches, is my attic vented or not? Is this the way to go or not, the contractor says they never want to go thru the roof cause maybe of future problems like leaks or something.

We are using our savings to upgrade/redo the bathroom and just want to make sure its right.
